TP Chandrasekharan murder: No proof yet to nail top guns

The Special Investigation Team probing the TPC murder case has begun work on framing the chargesheets amidst unconfirmed reports that the team is veering around the idea of winding up the investigation.

The team is bracing itself up to file the chargesheets before August 15 as evidence for booking top guns of the CPM has not been forthcoming, sources said.

The team is also conscious of the need to file the chargesheet within 90 days of the incident, sources said. TPC was killed on May 4 and by August 4 the stipulated 90 days will be completed.

The SIT however, declined to make any comments in this regard. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also declined to comment on the matter saying that it would not be proper on his part to make any remarks while the investigation was still on. He was addressing reporters at Kaleptta on Saturday.

The team, as such, has the arduous task of filing chargesheets against 70 people which may run into hundreds of pages.

The team is likely to nail 12 CPM leaders including P.Mohanan, P.K. Kunhananthan and Karayi Rajan for hatching the conspiracy to kill the RMP leader.

Chargesheets will be framed against the seven-member killer squad and a few others for carrying out the conspiracy.

The material evidence will be in the form of depositions made by those arrested, transcripts of mobile phone conversations and statements given by witnesses.

The SIT on Saturday, questioned and recorded the statements of three RSS workers. The RSS men had earlier claimed that a gang under the leadership of Kodi Suni had threatened them with deadly weapons hours before TPC was killed on May 4.

The three RSS workers, identified as Rajeev, Santhosh and Ramesh of Panur, were questioned at the SIT’s camp office at Vadakara.

The Director General of Police, Jacob Punnoose, said in Kochi on Saturday that the probe was going in the right direction and all reports that the case had been wound up was nonsense.

He added that no such decision has been taken so far. He also denied allegations that the phones of the officers in the probe team had been tapped.
