The Delhi government on Thursday claimed that it has nearly utilised all the funds released from the Union urban development (UD) ministry for various schemes under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). However, if compared with other cities, the capital seems to be lagging behind in fund utilisation.
According to a Delhi government official, the UD ministry had sanctioned 30 projects at a total approved cost of Rs 8,027 crores out of which the Centre was supposed to release Rs 2,809.73 crores towards its 35 per cent share as per the scheme. The city government’s share was nearly Rs 2,980.35 crores, while the executing agency, urban local bodies like the MCD and the NDMC, were supposed to contribute Rs 2,236.12 crores.
The first instalment of Rs 610 crores was supposed to be released by the UD ministry, out of which Rs 311.95 crores was cleared. Out of this amount, Rs 310.10 crores has been utilised upto March this year.
The Delhi Jal Board has utilised Rs 21.48 crores out of Rs 24.95 crores given to it. For transport sector projects, Rs 117.27 crores was committed and Rs 115.52 crores have been utilised. The NDMC reported full utilisation of its Rs 22 crores. Rs 134.69 crores was released for the MCD, of which Rs 123.18 crores has been utilised. For the PWD, the total outlay was Rs 310.94 crores out of which Rs 151 crores were released and utilised.
