Foreign delegates coming for the COP-11 international convention on biodiversity are to be taken around the worst-managed tourist spots in the city like Shamirpet Lake, Mir Alam Tank and Public Gardens.
Most of the tourist spots listed on the itinerary of the COP delegates — who will come from 193 countries — are unclean and have no basic facilities including restrooms.
Places like Public Gardens, which has become a home for rag-pickers and beggars, is also part of the COP tour offer.
The situation at these places is so bad that most residents avoid them.
The organisers added that the Katta Maisamma and the Darbar Maisamma temples are on the list of holy places to visit.
An official who is on the organising committee told this correspondent, “Basically the tourism department in association with organisers is arranging scheduled local sightseeing tours."
Among the planned tours are: ‘Sari Story’ (excursion to Pochampally) and ‘Old Tales of Living City’ with Charminar, Macca Masjid, Chowmahalla Palace and Salar Jung Museum.
The ‘Hyderabad Legacy’ tour includes Qutub Shahi tombs and Golconda fort, Film City, light and sound show at the Golconda fort.
“We have suggested places of interest in which Shamirpet lake, Mir Alam Tank and Public Gardens figure. We have to improve facilities at these places,” the official admitted.
