Bengaluru-based comedian Praveen Kumar takes a wry look at the corporate rat race
It is very important for a man to have perfect balance between home and office. In one place he is a dummy where he has to always listen to his boss and isn’t allowed to think on his own. The other place is his office.
Jokes apart, if you take a survey on the satisfaction of corporate employees with respect to their jobs, the results will clearly show that about 90 per cent of them are looking for a better job. The remaining 10 per cent have already found a job and are serving their notice period. Very few of us are satisfied with our jobs.
There are plenty of reasons for our dissatisfaction that ranges from less salary to bad tea in the canteen. You will eventually end up spending more time on Monster.com because of a real monster — your boss. A boss is like a senior in college who doesn’t stop ragging you. Most of us are not happy with the growth in the organisation unless of course, you’re a girl who is not an accountant but still works with “assets”. Some of us spend more time on the road in the stupid traffic than in the office or at home because of the distance between them. By the time you reach home, it is time for you to get ready to leave for the office.
Another annoying thing about corporate life is the dirty politics within a team even if it is a single person team. Sometimes it will match the likes of Karnataka politics, in which most of their proceedings are already getting telecast by Comedy Central channel.
The other major prime time slot on Comedy Central should be given to performance appraisals. That is the funniest thing that happens in an organisation and the outcome is the most tragic thing for the employees. Typically the results of the appraisals will be inversely proportional to the traffic in the job portals.
Despite all these shortcomings, we still run in this never ending rat race, day and night, leaving aside so many things, hoping that some day we might win or just hoping that the race gets interesting.
But does either of them happen? Only our conscience knows the answer.
