Despite the controversies rocking this picturesque coastal union territory in India, Goa’s beaches, culture, carnival and nightlife continue to drive a bulk of visitors from Tamil Nadu.
Besides Goa, Chennai, Ooty, Delhi and Gangtok are among the top five destinations that are most sought after by travellers from Tamil Nadu.
Singapore and United Arab Emirates are the most preferred foreign destinations. Next to them, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Thailand are among the top five foreign destinations preferred by those in Tamil Nadu. Singapore is popular across India, but as far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, residents also travel regularly to UAE. They also plan for the cool getaways like Ooty.
“Inbound search volumes for Chennai by Chennai residents are up in the top five,” says Jackson Fernandez, general manager of Wego India.
The details were culled from travel metasearch site: wego.co.in. Mr Jackson told DC that the mushrooming of online travel agencies not only offered a phenomenal growth for the travel sector but also gave wide choice for the travellers to choose from.
Wego, which is tied up with several inbound and outbound promoters, hotels, resorts, airlines and cab operators offered travellers an opportunity for comprehensive search on identifying the right air fare or hotel that suits one’s budget.
“The brand conscious, will however, not compromise. But many domestic travellers are very concerned over the expenses. Those keen on exploring exotic foreign destinations also hunt for the best deals due to the dip in rupee value,” claims Ashwin Jayasankar, head – product and alliances, Wego.
