Teacher held for sexual abuse of boy

A 55-year-old teacher of a private school in Chennai was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting his class 3 student.

The police acted on a complaint from the father of the 7-year-old student, a resident of Kaveri Nagar, Saidapet, and arrested Rohan Ravikumar, teacher of Gnanam Matriculation School, and booked him under the Juvenile Justice Act and Unnatural Sexual Act.

According to the complaint, the teacher had been talking to the kid about sexual acts and forced him to perform them.

“The teacher was doing things I am even ashamed to speak of. We were shocked when the child told us about it,” the boy’s family on Monday said. The women members assaulted the teacher who pleaded ignorance and he had to be rescued by his wife.

The family was agitated as they had complained to the school and the management promised to remove him. They gathered in the school when they found the teacher still working.

‘Women teachers were guilty too’

It was a complaint from the father of the class 3 student of Gnanam matriculation school, T. Nagar, that brought about the arrest of teacher Rohan Ravikumar for allegedly sexually assaulting the kid.

The father of the student, a resident of Kaveri Nagar, Saidapet, and his family came to the school on Monday and beat up the teacher. It is possible that other students may also be victims of his sexual acts, they fumed.

A G.O. issued in May this year had asked school authorities to dismiss teachers guilty of child abuse.

A UKG student was sexually abused by two women teachers, including the school principal, at Kallakuruchi, Villupuram district, last year.

The teachers were later arrested. The girl was abused in the principal’s room and threatened never to spoke about it.

In Chennai, 25-year-old teacher M. Alam was arrested in December 2011 on charges of sexually assaulting a 11-year-old boy in a school near Anna Salai.
