[1]Ahead of the organisational restructuring in the state Congress, the fourth group led by Vayalar Ravi has changed tack and is looking up to A.K. Antony to help thwart a likely steamrolling by chief minister Oommen Chandy and his men.
“A.K. Antony has a stature unmatched in the state Congress now and he should give up the attitude of leaving matters in the state Congress entirely to Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala. Antony should act as a rallying point for all Congressmen in the state. The Union minister is a bit disappointed over the affairs in the party in Kerala,” said a senior leader of the fourth group.
He said Vayalar Ravi had conveyed a similar message to Antony and also took up the matter with the Congress high command. “The fourth group has a 25 per cent stake in the present set up and we are for maintaining status quo. Otherwise, let the 300 odd elected KPCC members elect the KPCC executive and office-bearers and the DCC members also do the same,” he said.
He said that the schemes of Oommen Chandy and his ‘A’ group to secure control of seven DCCs and 50 per cent of the KPCC positions would not be allowed to succeed.
The fourth group, currently holding district-level meetings of the group, mostly attended by Vayalar Ravi himself, finds that Ramesh Chennithala is not opposing the stand of Oommen Chandy and supporters.
“The ‘A’ group’s current bid is to hijack more people from other groups which cannot be allowed,” the fourth group leader said.
He said leaders like V.M. Sudheeran should also be taken into confidence in the restructuring process.
