Abu Jundal has told the crime branch that the CST operation of 26/11 could have been worse had Abu Ismail (accomplice of Ajmal Aamir Kasab) not forgotten his satellite phone in the trawler the terrorists travelled in. Jundal told his interrogators that the handlers appointed for CST could not get in touch with Kasab and Ismail. He also confessed that he was in-charge of Nariman House operations, while three other set of handlers were present in the control room for Taj, Trident and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
“Jundal has said that he was only in touch with the two terrorists who carried out the attack at Nariman House. He said he did not speak with other eight terrorists during that period,” said Ambadas Pote, deputy commissioner of police, detection. Another source said that in the control room set up in Karachi, four different modules were present for handling the four groups of terrorists. “While the handlers were able to contact the terrorists at the Taj, the Trident and Nariman House, they could not establish contact with Kasab and Ismail as the latter had forgotten his phone on MV Kube, the trawler they travelled in from Pakistan,” said a source.
Sources said that Jundal also told his interrogators that while the duo managed to reach CST railway station and opened fire indiscriminately, they were confused as to what do next. “Jundal has said that unlike him who was guiding the two terrorists inside Nariman House at every stage and was giving instructions on what to do next, there was no one to guide Kasab and Ismail because of which they got confused,” said a source.
Fifty-six persons were killed in the attack on the CST railway station. When asked whether the duo was headed to Malabar Hill to attack any minister’s bungalow, Mr Pote said, “That is yet to be confirmed.”
