The burglar who returned gold stolen from a doctor’s house in Kotturpuram returned only half of the loot.
“We lost 70 sovereigns last Friday. We received only 35 on Wednesday,” the family said on Thursday.
“We found the gold ornaments in the jewels box in a parcel left in front of the house on Wednesday evening. However, only half the ornaments were there with an apology note,” said the family of Dr Azhar Hussain.
“Somebody had pressed the doorbell after leaving the parcel there,” the doctor said.
The police on Thursday lifted fingerprints from the parcel and doorbell. The team was also trying to analyse the handwriting found on the apology letter.
“It seems somebody who had only very basic education had written the note in Tamil,” the police said.
