The trade licence of one of the most popular Chinese eatery in the city, Nanking restaurant at Park Lane in Secunderabad, could soon be cancelled along with those of two other hotels-cum-restaurants and a paan shop. All of them are located in the building, a portion of which collapsed on Tuesday night, killing one person. The building accommodating Nanking and other restaurants will be pulled down if structural stability tests reveal that it is not fit for habitation. GHMC has decided to cancel the trade licences of all commercial establishments in the building till structural stability is verified. Notices are also being issued to all the tenants to immediately vacate the building to allow officials time for inspection and structural stability tests of the building.
Experts from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and GHMC will assess the “fitness” of the building. Presently there are half-a-dozen tenants staying in the remaining portions of this building, including two other hotels on the ground floor. The building, which is not on the list of dilapidated structures notified by GHMC, is owned by the Pitti family. GHMC zonal commissioner S. Harikrishna said, “The remaining portions of the building look weak. Commercial establishments cannot be allowed to function in a building, the stability of which is yet to be verified. The trade licences can be renewed after the stability is established for hotels to continue their business.”
