Mayor Tony Chammany refuted allegations that external agencies were interfering in the corporation administration.
The mayor said, “All development works carried out by other agencies in the city like Metro Rail Corpora-tion and the Irrigation Department are with the knowledge and support of the corporation.”
The mayor added that he would give clear instructions to MLAs, MPs and others to consult the standing committees befo-re starting works on corpo-ration-owned properties.
Chammany was replying to a debate in the corporation council meeting on Tuesday. The Opposition alleged that the council never passed a resolution to hand over the construction of a new solid waste treatment plant at Brahmapuram.
Congress councillor Leno Jacob said that the left trade union CITU office at Market road, on corporation land, was not paying rent to the civic body. Later, opposition members produced the rent receipt and demanded an apology.
