The Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Wednesday said it will soon decide whether to support the Telangana Joint Action Committee’s different programmes, including the ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ rally scheduled on September 30. “The issue of supporting TJAC and its ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ programme would be discussed in the party politburo. A decision will be taken thereafter,” TRS politburo member B. Vinod Kumar said.
He clarified that the TRS “line” is different from one pursued by the TJAC. The TRS had been seen as being frosty toward TJAC since the party’s candidate lost to the BJP in Mahbubnagar Assembly byelections, with the local TJAC backing the BJP. While the two organisations subsequently mended bridges ahead of the bypolls for Parkal seat, the relationship is yet to reach the warmth of yore.
TRS chief K Chandr-asekhar Rao is also seen avoiding the same dais with TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram — most recently at TNGO leader Swami Goud's farewell function, where Prof Kodandaram was conspicuous by his absence. The TJAC, meanwhile, has decided to maintain a distance from political parties following a rift over supporting candidates in elections, and has clearly stated its desire to remain an apolitical organisation.
Asserting that the Congress leadership in New Delhi has hinted that the Centre would make its stand clear on the statehood issue this week, a TRS leader asserted, “There is no scope to deny Telangana (any more).” Taking potshots at TD, he said the party had supported the Telangana movement before December 9, 2009 but changed its stance after the statement. “I don’t know what TD plans to write in its letter. I also don’t know whether it will be in favour of Telangana or against it,” he said in reply to a question.
