Free commute with Games ticket is a hit

The Commonwealth Games has again given youngsters a reason to rejoice. All spectators buying tickets are entitled to free transport to and from the venue on Delhi Metro and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses on the day of the event.
More than anyone else, it is sports-enthusiasts’ who like the idea of free commuting. Vaibhav Sehgal, a first year BBA student from IP University, who is planning to buy tickets during phase-2, says that many of his friends are already excited considering the fact that 40 per cent of the tickets are below Rs 200.
“And a free of cost commuting is an add-on. Most of us would be free during the games as all school and colleges would be closed. It would give us ample time to spend with friends as buying the Rs 50 ticket and travelling free of cost won’t be heavy on the pocket,” he says, adding that even parents wouldn’t stop them from participating or watching the Games.
Shivani Sharma, a first year DU student, has a more practical, smarter approach. She is aware that commuting through public transport has been made free of cost to reduce traffic during the games. “And we as responsible citizens should try to opt for buses and the Metro even if we have private vehicles,” she says.
Sarthak Harbola, another DU student agrees and adds, “Anyhow, it will be pretty problematic for people who plan to commute by their own vehicles as they can’t take their vehicles till the venue. They will have to park it at the designated parking place and then take the other options available to ferry the audience. It is always better to opt for public transport. At least I’d do that.”
Ishaan Goel, a BBA student of Amity University, applauds the scheme and says, “It is the best way to control traffic menace. I hope the audience understands this.”
