Geetika case: HC rejects Gopal Kanda’s bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda, who is accused of abetting the suicide of former air hostess Geetika Sharma.

Kanda had approached the High Court after the lower court had dismissed his bail plea.

The Delhi High Court had earlier on August 14 reserved its order on Kanda's bail plea.

A Delhi Court had earlier on Thursday issued a Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against Kanda in connection with the case.

The Rohini Court, which issued the order yesterday, asked the police to execute the arrest warrant by August 24.

Delhi Police had earlier on Thursday conducted fresh raids at Kanda residence, even as he evaded police for another day.

Kanda has been on the ever since the case was lodged against him and his aide Aruna Chaddha.

The concerned investigators, who have so far conducted searches and raids in around 50 places and questioned over 25 people, also went to Kanda's residence in Sirsa earlier on Wednesday night and conducted raids. The investigators, however, could not trace the former Haryana minister.

Kanda, who was last seen coming out of his Gurgaon residence on August 8, was served with a notice to join investigations last Wednesday.

The former Haryana Minister had gone underground with police declaring him an 'absconder', while MDLR Airlines executive and Kanda's employee Aruna Chaddha was arrested.

Kanda and Chaddha were named in the suicide note of Geetika, who took her life on August five, alleging that they had harassed her and ruined her life.

Chaddha was arrested on August 8 after being called in for questioning by the police, while Kanda ignored police summons to him to appear before them after rejection of his request for more time made through his counsel.

Geetika Sharma a former airhostess with Kanda's MDLR Airline, had alleged in her suicide note that she was ending her life due to harassment by Kanda and MDLR official Chaddha.

23-year-old Geetika was found hanging in her flat in North West Delhi on August 5.

Kanda and Chaddha have, however, denied the allegations so far.
