[1]Dozens of pro-independence Jammu Kashmiri Liberation Front (JKLF) activists, led by its chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Friday courted arrest to protest against what it alleged are increasing human rights violations by Indian security forces.
After offering Friday prayers at a mosque adjacent to the JKLF faction headquarters at Maisuma here, Mr Malik and others walked towards historic Lal Chowk chanting “we want freedom” and “stop brutality against innocent civilians.”
Before courting arrest the JKLF leader in his brief speech alleged that the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir was “deteriorating” and that the latest examples of the “brutality unleashed on innocent people” are the killing of 17-year-old student Tufail Mattoo in Srinagar and the murder of three Kashmiri youth in a staged gunfight near the Line of Control.
The JKLF leader also added that the peaceful campaign to highlight the “grim” situation and invite the world community’s attention towards it would continue.
