Would you love your sausage casserole being developed in a scientific laboratory with scientists monitoring every inch of growth of that meat? Well, probably the future will have this fictional thought turn into reality.

Synthetic or test tube meat is looked upon as the latest discovery in genetic engineering. It involved taking a small amount of cells from a living animal and then growing it into lumps of muscle tissue in the lab, which can then be eaten as meat by humans.
Kimberly Rebello, a social activist and environmentalist says that it could prove to be a boon for those campaigning against non-vegetarianism. “You could actually live in a world where you could consume meat without killing animals. This would make for a win-win situation. I would love to see where this research goes and how economically viable this is considering the number of non-vegetarians across the world,” says Rebello.
Given that meat would be grown within the precincts of a lab, the hygiene and other standards of cleanliness would be automatically taken care of.
But how chemically rich will it be and would that affect nutrition content is the main point of contention. “Considering there would be so many various scientific experiments conducted on it, I wonder how rich would it be nutrition wise and how palatable would it be for consumption? I don’t mind as long as it is tasty,” says Mohini Nath, a media professional.
