In a bid to identify people denying the right to education to their daughters, Child Rights and You (CRY) has initiated a photography campaign “Click Rights”, wherein people have been invited to take photographs of such girls and upload it on the official website of the NGO.
CRY officials said that the campaign will make it easier for them to collect data that would otherwise have taken them years to collect through surveys and hence as an incentive the best photographs will be exhibited in five major metros in the country.
Speaking about the campaign, Kreeanne Rabadi, regional director, CRY (west region) said, “Click Rights is CRY’s flagship initiative that aims to use photography to raise public awareness about critical issues concerning children in India today. This year, the focus is the girl child and we are urging citizens to be an active part of a movement that champions a society that treats all its children equally, irrespective of their gender.”
Despite various steps taken by the government to ensure that all children of school going age go to one, many families still follow gender discriminative traditions as a result of which many girls between the age of 6 and 14 years are denied their right to education.
The campaign kicked off on August 28 and will continue till October after which the best photographs will be displayed in exhibitions at Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Chennai on October 6 and 7, as a curtain raiser for the International Day of the Girl that will be observed on October 11.
