The state’s first Haemophilia Treatment Centre has been sanctioned at the Ernakulam District Hospital in Aluva.
The centre, which aims to offer comprehensive treatment for heamophilia, is being set up under Public-Private-Participation mo-del in the campus of Regional Blood Transfusion Centre with necessary infrastructural support from the State government and private entities.
The centre has been envisaged at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore with the support of National Rural Health Mission and Kerala State Medical Corporation Limited.
“People in Kerala have been depending on Bengaluru St Johns’ Hospital and Velloor Christian Medical College for diagnosis and treatment of Haemophilia.
The centre at Aluva will hopefully help a lot of people here,” said N. Vijayakumar, who anchored the initiative to set up the centre.
Haemophilia is a group of hereditary genetic disorders that impair the body's ability to control blood clotting or coagulation, which is used to stop bleeding when a blood vessel is broken.
