MG Road Metro station gets boulevard with fountain

The Namma Metro has got a facelift. To give Metro Rail commuters a pleasant view, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation has created a beautiful boulevard, adjacent to the MG Road Metro Station. It was inaugurated on Wednesday evening. The BMRCL has spent Rs 4 crore for beautifying the 850 sqare metre stretch. However, only one part of it has been done so far. The other portion of the boulevard will be completed in a couple of months, BMRCL officials said. The boulevard has a fountain, decorated by coloured lights in the background. There is also a filtration room for the fountain. The entire stretch near the fountain has a provision for laser shows, depending on public demand, they said. Unique flowering trees, like the mondovelli from Mexico, have been imported to enhance the beauty of the stretch. Passersby can enjoy the fountain from 6 pm till 11 pm.

Metro gets clearances to begin work in Malleswaram
The Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Southern Circle, has given the green signal for the construction of a 66-metre-long viaduct crossing the railway line at Malleswaram. The work will begin shortly. The speed of trains passing through Malleswaram, where the construction is going on, will be restricted to 20 kmph on both tracks.

There will be 26 traffic and power blocks of 2.5 hours at any time of the day or night. This is for launching the trusses, steel beams and other staging material spanning the tracks. “The work will take six months. The completion of work on this span will determine the opening of Reach-3 line,” said a senior BMRCL official. The change in train speed could lead to change in schedule of trains running on the Bengaluru city-Yeshwantpur-Hubli route.
