[1]A 16-year-old boy, Sathish, a Class 10 dropout from a fisherman's family, was on Friday run over by a tanker after he slipped from his cycle on the one-way road around Foreshore Estate near the Marina beach. Sathish had played a small role in the Tamil movie Marina.
“He was riding a bicycle with his friend on the pillion when he slipped and was crushed under the rear wheel of an empty oil tanker coming from the other side,” police said.
Tanker driver Ilayaraja, 24, was arrested.
The victim’s family and relatives damaged the windshields of the tanker and tried to block the road demanding that police restrict movement of heavy vehicles on the one-way stretch around Foreshore Estate.
They said that rash driving causes accidents on the stretch and demanded police block lorry movement on Marina service lane.
“The driver was going back to Tondiarpet refinery and went to the beach to have lunch,” the police said.
Sathish had played a small role in Marina, which is a story about children at the beach.
