The shortage of cooking gas in the city has resulted in widespread anguish, as delay in supply has hit homemakers who are finding it difficult to finish their daily chores.
People in various parts of the city are witnessing irregular supply of cooking fuel with bottling units alleging that dealers could have created an artificial demand to justify the price hike.
The general secretary of the Tamilnadu Petroleum Gas Workers Union, K. Vijayan, attributed the shortfall in supply to the artificial demand created by the dealers. “The supply of cooking gas is normal and presently there is no shortage,” he said.
Some people are countering the delay by using induction stoves. However, not everybody has been able to do this. “In our locality, the supply of cooking gas has been hit for almost 30 days and many families cannot afford induction stoves” said E. Balasubramani, a resident, Thiruvorityur.
“I am waiting for a gas cylinder for the past 10 days and in a day or two my cooking fuel will be over,” said Lakshmi Ganesh, a resident of Perungudi.
