The government has been forced to withdraw the order that froze the appointment of temporary teachers (shikshan sevaks), following sustained agitation and petition by activists in the state.
The agitators had been demanding removal of the order, as well as providing opportunities to the temporary teachers to get appointed as permanent staff, as and when there was an opening.
Speaking on the success of their agitation, advocate Manoj Tekade, who is also a member of the MNS said that the freeze on the appointment of temporary teachers, who had appeared for the entrance test in 2010 had been unjustified. “There have been allegations of corrupt practices in the appointment process, as a result of which the government decided to freeze the process entirely,” Mr Tekade alleged.
The school education department has taken back the order with certain conditions. The department has clearly stated that temporary teachers will be transferred from schools, where there are no vacancies.
