600 kg laddu offering made on Garuda Seva at Chennai temple

It was a sweet offering that was made to Lord Venkateswara. The Bharath Hindu Munani and residents of Nammalvarpet in Ayyanavaram here on Saturday celebrated the annual Garuda Seva at the Lord Venkateswara temple in Tirumala by offering Lord Venkateswara a laddu weighing 600 kg.

The residents and the Bharath Hindu Munani, under the guidance of M. Vasnthkumar, the state organiser of the Bharath Hindu Munani, made the laddu with 170 kg sugar, 75 kg of kadalamavu (gram flour), besides eight tins of refined oil, cashew, raisins and cardamom.

“We wanted to make something different to observe Garuda Seva in Tirumala,” said S. Kannan, a member of Bharath Hindu Munani.

“We even made a statue of Lord Ranganathar on the occasion,” he said.

Lakhs of devotees from different parts of the country converge atop the sacred hill temple of Lord Venkateswara to take part in the auspicious Garuda Seva festival that is observed on the fifth day of the annual Brahmotsavams at Tirumala.

Women performed aarti to the gigantic laddu that was displayed at Nammalvarpet.
The organisers of the temple fest in the city also arranged Annadhanam for the public later in the evening.
