[1]Telangana Joint Action Committee on Tuesday curtly turned down Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s plea to postpone the ‘Chalo Hyderabad’ march scheduled for September 30, even as it moved the SHRC saying that the government was trying to sabotage the march.
Mr Narasimhan asked the TJAC to postpone the march in view of the international biodiversity meet the next day. TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram, who led a delegation that met the Governor, told him the TJAC would consider his plea if he used his good offices with the Centre to announce a road map for carving out a separate Telangana. The Governor reportedly told the delegation that the Centre had to take a decision on the matter and that it was not in his hands. Prof Kodandaram told the Governor that the march would be peaceful and requested him not to treat it as a law-and-order issue, but a reflection of the sentiments of 4 crore people of Telangana.
“He asked us, what’s so special about September 30? Can’t you consider postponement of the march in view of the biodiversity meet which is being considered a prestigious event by the government,” a delegation member disclosed. Elsewhere, the Junior Advocates Association of Telangana, which filed the petition on behalf of the TJAC, moved the SHRC against the principal secretary and home secretary and the DGP, saying that the government was trying to sabotage the march planned for September 30. It accused the state government of filing false cases against TJAC members and other Telangana supporters.
