Security is moving into “high alert” mode as city police prepares to post armed guards at the hotels where guests of the CoP-11 international conference will be accommodated. Quick Reaction Teams of Greyhounds and OCTOPUS commandos are being kept in readiness round-the-clock. In the wake of the Mumbai 26/11 Taj terror attacks, cops are taking no chances and have drawn up tight security plans.
City police will be using bomb inhibitors at all hotels and routes to the venue. Six routes have been zeroed in, that lead from hotels to the venue. Police said 5,000 hotel rooms in 41 hotels, guest houses and universities had been identified so far. All hotels will have access control and anti-sabotage checks will be carried out, with mine sweepers and explosive detectors. Cops are also verifying the antecedents of hotel employees and doing background checks of people visiting the venue.
The city police has decided to utilise the helipads at Secretariat, MCHRD and Begumpet old airport to monitor VVIP movements. Police will also station cops at railway stations and bus stands in the city. Around 1,337 policemen from the City Security Wing will be deployed for the CoP-11 on various duties: access control, anti-sabotage checks, route checking, vehicle scanning, watchers, escort teams and guards. The government has released `5.6 crore to the police for “bando-bast”arrangements for the conference. Police has procured high-tech security devices like door frame metal detectors, explosive detectors, bomb inhibitors, telescopic manipulators, industrial endoscopes and vehicle inspection mirrors.
Cops have decided to reschedule RTC buses in the six identified routes from city hotels to the venue at HICC. There will be frequent checking of lodges and hotels.
