[1]Harrowed residents in certain pockets of Royapuram were pleasantly surprised when metro water staff and corporation officials descended on their localities to inspect the quality of the piped water recently following a report in Deccan Chronicle on supply of contaminated water.
The councillor spoke to residents of Old Amaranchipuram, promising them that clean water would be provided.
He even ordered quick clearing of accumulated garbage and removal of debris on Thandavarayan Street.
Metro water officials were also seen trying to remove the sewage block on Thandavarayan Street that has resulted in the area being flooded with filth. The metro water officials promised that the problem would be fixed immediately.
“I am very happy that the authorities have woken up from their deep slumber at least now. However, many parts of the region still lack proper drinking water facility,” said a resident.
“This is the first time that metro officers are entering our street. We hope they will understand the horrible conditions we live in and take action to make it better,” said a mother of two.
The corporation officials assured people that they would frequent the area more often, but asked the residents to bring the problems to their notice before “posing for media cameras”.
