[1]The police on Monday arrested Telangana United Front (TUF) leader Vimalakka for allegedly vandalising a statue of former chief minister Kasu Brahmananda Reddy at KBR Park, Jubilee Hills, on September 17.
There was mild tension when TUF and pro-Telangana activists tried to prevent the police from arresting Vimalakka at her house in Ashoknagar at 7.30 am.
Vimalakka: Kasu was a T-traitor
Activists of the Telangana Advocates’ JAC began a protest, demanding immediate bail for Telangana United Front leader Vimalakka when she was produced in court. Police took Vimalakka to the Banjara Hills police station, and later shifted her to Central Crime Station. Following a medical check-up at Osmania General Hospital, she was produced in the Nampally court, where she was given conditional bail by the 3rd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.
According to Banjara Hills ACP Shanker Reddy, Vimalakka was charged under IPC Sections 147 and 148 (for rioting) 149 (for unlawful assembly) 332 (for causing hurt to a public servant) 335 (causing hurt on provocation), 427 (for causing damage to property) and 120 B (for criminal conspiracy). Talking to reporters after the arrest, Vimalakka justified the defacement saying that the former CM was a “traitor of Telangana” who was responsible for the death of many Telangana students in 1969. She said the statues of such leaders would provoke the Telangana people.
