Initially labelled and dismissed as a “serial kisser” Emraan Hashmi has finally emerged as the dark horse of the industry. After a spate of back-to-back hits, the actor has seen a meteoric rise in status among Bollywood heroes, so much so that now the industry bigwigs are coming up, proactively, to root for him.
From Karan Johar to Ekta Kapoor, to Siddharth Roy Kapoor and Anurag Basu — every director and producer worth their money are lining up outside Emraan’s door. Even Salman Khan recently said that it’s about time that we accept Emraan as a superstar.
Emraan, of course, is overwhelmed by the support from the industry. But he still chooses to underplay his stardom. “Big league?” he doesn’t seem to be too sure of the term, but continues, “I have always tried to make sure that no one is disappointed with my films. Maybe that’s why the audience also realises that I don’t take them for granted.”
There is a certain section of the media as well as the industry that continues to feel that he’s being given too much importance too soon. But Ekta jumps to Emraan’s defense, saying, “He didn’t arrive one fine day. His rock-solid fan base grew with each film. Echoing Ekta is Karan Johar. “Undoubtedly, Emraan has emerged as an extremely bankable and dependable movie star,” he says. And Siddharth joins the fray, when he says, “He’s certainly one of the biggest stars of his generation.”
Way to go Emraan!
