In an effort to strengthen its marketing network and boost the sale of products from women entrepreneurs, the state’s Kudumbasree mission would launch a chain of 20,000 Home Shops in three years, targeting an annual turnover of Rs 100 crore.
The Home Shops would do door-to-door sale of products, with an authorised seller for every 120 to 150 homes in a locality.
“Primarily, products like rice and wheat flour, masala powders, soaps and detergents will be sold through home shops. But, the product range will change as per the tastes and composition of different areas.
This new marketing window will have a three-tier system including production, distribution and management.
Each Home Shop unit will have five to seven members,” said Liby Johnson, programme officer (marketing) of Kudumbasree.
The concept, started on an experiment basis in Kodakara in Thrissur district, turned out to be a big success. Currently, it is being undertaken in a small way in eight districts.
Meanwhile, Kudumbasree mission is on the expansion mode with new projects, products and services. Currently, there is a move to replicate it at the national level.
