The Coimbatore District Consumer Redressal Forum on Monday pulled up a popular private school in S.S. Kulam on Sathy Road for failing to refund the fees money of an LKG student who did not join the institution after paying the fees.
M.P. Parameswaran from Orbit Avenue in Race Course here had admitted his daughter M.P. Kaviska in LKG at the Indian Public School by paying `1 lakh fees for the academic year 2012-2013.
Parameswaran, a private firm employee, arranged for the money with difficulty hoping to give his daughter a good education.
However, when his wife Meghala delivered a baby in May 2012, Parameswaran felt a dire need for money to meet his wife’s medical expenses.
“Considering his poor financial situation, Parameswaran decided to get Kaviska out of the Indian Public School (IPS) and put her in an ordinary school.
Parameswaran had also informed his decision to the school management, while requesting the school for refund through e-mail and in person.
There was no proper reply from the school management and, besides, he was also made to run from pillar to post,” said N. Sundaravadivelu, the advocate who appeared on behalf of Parameswaran.
Consumer Redressal Forum president R. Dhandapani has ordered the school to refund the balance amount of Rs 75,000.
