3-year-old boy rescued from Krishnagiri borewell

A three-year-old boy, who accidentally fell into a dry, 520 feet deep borewell in Tamil Nadu, was rescued safely after six hours of struggle by the fire department officials.

On Sunday morning, A. Guna, 3, of Kumalthur village, near Akkalakottai of Denkannikottai taluk, Krishnagiri, slipped into the borewell, while he was playing with his sister Pooja, 4, near the well.

Pooja, who saw her brother fall into the pit, informed her parents M. Anand, 25, and A. Padma, 22, working on their farmland.

They rushed to the well and heard Guna crying. Anand and Padma informed the villagers but the local's attempts to rescue Guna proved futile.

The villagers then called Denakannikottai police for help and they, in turn, informed the Denkannikottai fire office.

The fire service team, led by Krishnagiri fire officer M. Dakshina Moorthi, and Denkannikottai police reached the spot at 10 am. They found Guna trapped 30 feet down the pit. Police said the borewell dug on Saturday night by his father, was left open after it failed to yield water.

Rescuers reach boy from parallel pit

A medical team was requested to be at the site before the fire officials began their work to rescue the 3-year-old boy, who had fallen into a borewell near Krishnagiri. The team, led by Denkannikottai government hospital doctor G. Raj Kumar, was deputed to assist the rescue team in case of an emergency.

A 25-ft deep pit was dug next to the borewell with the help of earthmovers. The PVC pipe of the borewell was carefully broken and the rescue team found Guna about five feet deep in the pit dug to rescue the boy.

When the officers called out to Guna, he responded by raising his hand. The rescue team made a knot with a rope and sent it down into the well to reach the boy. The child was asked to insert his hand inside the ring of the rope and Guna did as instructed.

The rescue team slowly pulled one end of the rope and tied Guna to prevent him from further going down into the borewell. Guna was safely hooked out of the pit using an iron rod.
