Two Dutch tourists have alleged that they were repeatedly raped and robbed of their money and passports by two men posing as tourist guides.
A case of rape has been registered against two accused, Yasir Altaf and Omar Baktoo, both residents of Kashmir. Yasin has been arrested, who has reportedly c
onfessed to the crime, while a manhunt has been launched to arrest Omar. Additional commissioner of police S.S. Dass said a 24-year-old Dutch national, along with her friend, who are on a world tour, reached Delhi on January 5, 2010 and stayed in a Paharganj hotel. “On January 6, they went to Connaught Place and met Yasir and Omar, who allegedly posed themselves as tourist guides working for a government tourist agency,” Mr Dass said.
“Yasir helped them in procuring SIM cards and they became friends. He then asked the girl to visit Kashmir and promised to make all arrangements. Both the girls agreed and made booking with one Ali Travel Agency in Karol Bagh. On January 8, both girls went to Srinagar along with the accused and stayed in Omar’s houseboat. Next day, they visited Gulmarg where the girls handed over their passports to the accused,” a source said.
However, the girls realised that the accused were charging them exorbitant rates and told the accused that they wanted to cancel tour and demanded their money back.
“But the accused forced them to stay as their passports were with them and threatened to put them in trouble. Yasir and Baktoo allegedly raped the women several times for next four days in the houseboat,” Mr Dass said.
“On January 25, the victims reached Delhi and stayed in a hotel in Karol Bagh where they were raped again for about six days. Yasir also took Rs 60,000 as loan from one of the victims and went to Jaipur and Ranthambore along with them. When they came back to Delhi on February 4, she found her 200 Euros and Rs 25,000 were stolen,” Mr Dass said. Medical examination confirmed rape.
