Blackberry’s turning themselves around. The struggling mobile phone maker has now unveiled India’s first NFC-enabled cafe — in Hyderabad. Simply put, these are next generation internet cafes.

Customers can now walk in, tap their phones into an NFC-enabled “board” and get their transactions and data transfer done in seconds. NFC-enabled or (Near-Field Communication) is a wireless technology “designed to enable communication between two devices over a very close distance”. While the first NFC-enabled cafe that opened in Australia last year, Hyderabad will see India's first store courtesy BlackBerry.
Salil Das, a programme developer says, “Using this technology people can easily share contacts, photos, documents and multimedia — from their phones to any other NFC-enabled device with a simple ‘tap’. With NFC you can also enable money transactions. You can also make your phone your wallet and carry all your credit cards, debit cards in one device. Tap the back of your phone at the point of sale to simply pay.”
“Basically these cafes place tags (something similar to posters) where people can tap their phones (NFC-enabled) and check into — FB, Twitter, and other websites,” says Ashwin Roy Chowdhury, an app developer.
