The railway police on Thursday released CCTV footage to nail the killer of the unidentified woman who was found bundled in a suitcase on a platform at the high security Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) last week. However, the facial features of the two youths who abandoned the bag are not easily discernible due to the poor quality of the footage.
The footage shows two youths disembarking with the suitcase from the Pune-Mumbai Sinhagad Express that pulled into CST. The tense duo stood with the suitcase for a while just outside the general compartment from where they had alighted. The duo aged between 20 and 25, possibly panicking after seeing a policeman walk past them, abandoned the suitcase close to a nearby stall before rushing away.
They walked through the concourse of the station before exiting. Different cameras installed at the station have captured the movements of the two youths but the video quality is not good enough to focus on their faces.
“The dead body was fresh when found, indicating that the victim was killed at a destination within eight hours from CST. We have alerted the police stations till Pune and beyond,” said Mr Surendra Deshmukh, senior police inspector, CST GRP, adding, “The accused might have boarded the train from non-crowded stations
such as Lonavla and Khandala as it is not possible to board the general compartment with luggage at Chinchwad, Pimpri, Karjat or Kalyan due to overcrowding.”
The CST GRP has sought public help to identify the youths and notify them on 022-22620173.
The police have notified their counterparts in Pune, Pune rural, Thane and Raigad for any missing complaint. However, no such complaint has been filed.
The police have distributed pamphlets to the regular commuters requesting that they notify them on anything to do with the murder.
