Even as newly appointed West Bengal PCC chief Manas Ranjan Bhunia said he will work hard to strengthen the party in the state, Congress insiders said the new PCC chief has his job cut out for him with a section insisting that an alliance with the Trinamul Congress should be only on “honourable terms”.
“I will try my level best to make the party strong in Bengal. If the party is weak, our alliance with the Trinamul Congress will also get weakened. So we have to make both the party and the alliance much stronger to oust the CPI(M)-led Left Front from power,” Mr Bhunia told agencies.
Mr Bhunia, who will be meeting Mrs Gandhi and other leaders here on Monday, thanked the Congress president and senior leaders, including Mr Mukherjee, whom he described as the party’s guardian in West Bengal, and said it was a big responsibility that he had been entrusted with.
