There’s this guy sitting with his wife in the park. He replaces himself with a body double aka toy and rushes to watch the FIFA World Cup with his buddies. But there are numerous girls who break this stereotype as they are avid football fans.
Nurus Sabah, a fashion student is a football fanatic. A die-hard supporter of Arsenal, she is rooting for Spain this time. “It’s absolutely false that girls don’t watch football. I love Spain. They have a certain passion that other teams lack. I’m a fan of Xavi and Fabregas.”
Of course, it’s wrong to assume that girls like only cute-looking football players. “We are not ignorant fools who see only the faces. We know what footwork is about. Even a lot of schools and college have women’s football teams including ours. On Facebook, I see a lot of girls following football and they know more than men give them credit for,” says Sabah, who isn’t the type to like Cristiano Ronaldo just because he’s good looking. “I know what ‘offside’ means and know the technical football terms too. Many guys ridicule girls and put them down,” she adds.
Law student Nayantara Raja, a football fan says, “My guy friends find it easier to talk to me since I like football.”
