‘Sholay dialogues are deep-rooted in me’

The country’s new poster girl after Gangs of Wasseypur, Huma Qureshi, is getting ready for her next film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana.
A scion of a family that runs one of the best restaurants in Delhi, Huma hates cooking. “Yes! I am not a good cook at all. I am a foodie but cooking bugs me a lot. Recently I had to play someone who was a good cook in Luv Shuv Tey....In a scene I had to teach Kunal Kapoor how to chop onions but to everyone’s surprise I could not do it well. They all mocked me on the sets and said ‘you are a shame to your family’.”
But she always knew she wanted to act. “I have a theatre background and my parents always knew that I was keen on joining the glamour world. I did not have to revolt against my folks to come to Bollywood. My parents believe in me and I will not let them down,” she says. Huma continues, “I watched GOW with my entire family and their appreciation meant a lot to me. I was noticed by Anurag Kashyap in an ad and he had promised to give me a good role. I consider him my godfather but he has not made me sign any contract. Getting recognition and being liked in GoW…I think I have been able to showcase my talent. I am always open to good films.”
Huma says she chooses characters that will attract global audiences. “I always crave for roles that have a universal connect. Global recognition will help me carve a niche for myself,” says the actress, adding, “My all-time favourite dialogues are from Sholay; Basanti’s dialogues are deep-rooted within me.”
Speaking of Luv Shuv Tey Chicken… Huma says, “It’s a film that bring back memories of a small town middle class family.” After this film the actress is looking forward to her other upcoming films Ek Thi Daayan and D-Day.
