Amid a heated debate on corruption, the Union government on Saturday rolled out the direct cash transfer system under the Aadhaar scheme.
Prime Minister Man-mohan Singh assured the nation the system would bring in more transparency in governance with the use of new technology. Addre-ssing a function to relaunch the Aadhar card system here on Saturday, Dr Singh said, “Cash benefits un-der the schemes will be transferred to the accounts of the beneficiaries. On the basis of Aadhaar, we can ensure that benefits of schemes reach genuine beneficiaries and that there is no mediator,” he said.
UPA chairperson Son-ia Gandhi, who said the Aadhaar system will be instrumental in changing the lives of people, handed over Aadhaar number 21 crore to Bali Devi of Udaipur.
