The power situation in the state worsened with the breakdown of two thermal units.
The tripping this week is almost the 25th such incident this year in the state, which has been facing innumerable breakdowns and technical snags due to overworked power units.
Most thermal power units in the state have been una-ble to go for must-have overhauls over the last one year as the hydel generation has remained bleak throughout the year, putting the entire load on thermal power un-its.
Moreover, one unit each of Kothagudem as well as Ramagundem Thermal Po-wer Station, has been under outage for over a month for annual overhaul and maintenance work.
Two other units of Kothagudem and one unit of Vijayawada The-rmal Power Station have been under forced outage for the last four to five days due to technical snags. Collectively, the state is losing 500 MW power daily.
Inadequate technical kno-whow of the department to deal with emergency situations as well as delay in going for timely overhauls has been resulting in delay in attending to snags.
“Thermal units have been overexerted due to constant usage. The maintenance wo-rk is taking extra time, besi-des shortage of highly-skil-led staff that can meet the demand,” an official said.

What should not take more than two to three days to restore a unit has taken between half a month to two months at a stretch to be restored to production stage.
