First National School Chess Championships begins

The First National School Chess Championship-2012 got off to a rousing start here at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex, Civil Lines on Saturday. A total number of 596 players from different schools across the country are participating in this nine round Swiss system championship and serve as selection event for the forthcoming Asian School Chess Championship scheduled to be held at Delhi in the month of December.

Earlier the championship was inaugurated by World Chess Federation General Secretary Ignatius Leong in presence of Delhi’s new Grandmaster Sahaj Grover and AK Verma, Secretary Delhi Chess Association.

Before the start of fifth round matches, famous film artist Raveena Tandon visited the tournament hall and encouraged the participants.

Under-5 Open:- Maheshwar S (3) lost to Garv Rai (4); Chandrani Shlok (3.5) beat Mackenzie Campbel B (3); Aditya Ramanathan (2) lost to Ryan Priyank (3.5).

Under-5 Girls:- Yashavishree (3) lost to Prathivya Gupta (4); Savitha Shri B (2.5) lost to Siya Sagar (3); Deepanshi Pal (2) lost to Aswatha B (3).

Under-7 Open:- Praggnanandhaa R (4) beat Biswal Sumit (3); Tharun P K (4) beat Siddhanth Lohia (3); Leon Mendonca (4) beat Siddhant Nath Jha (3).

Under-7 Girls:- Chinnam Vyshnavi (4) beat Kaamya Negi (3); Divya Deshmukh (3) lost to Sanskruti Wankhade (3.5); Reema Dawar (2) lost to Jesica (3).

Under-9 Open:- Om Kharola (3) lost to Raja Rithvik R (4); Sankalp Gupta (3) lost to Harshvardhan G B (4); Alok Sinha (3) lost to Mehta Naitik (4).

Under-9 Girls:- Mrudul Dehankar (4) lost to Bhavana A (3); Salonika Saina (3.5) lost to Arushi Kotwal (2.5); Choksey Maitri (3) drew with Manya Bagla (3).

Under-11 Open:- Aansh Gupta (3.5) drew with Saurabh Anand (3.5); Samal Ansuman (4) beat Vikrant (3); Ayush Pattanaik (3) lost to Subhasis Barik (4).

Under-11 Girls:- Bidhar Rutumbara (3) lost to Vaishali R (4); Priyanka K (3.5) drew with Tarini Goyal (3); Meenal Gupta (2.5) lost to Palkin Kaur (3).

Under-13 Open:- Eashwar M (3) lost to Karthikeyan Murali (4); Muthaiah AL (4) beat Manan Rai (3); Rohit Vassan (4) beat Harshal Shahi (3).
