‘Nov. 9 meet not a chintan shivir’

Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi told reporters on Thursday that the Congress meeting on November 9 will be an informal one which would discuss present political situation, economic challenges and manifesto implementation.
He said the meeting, the first of its nature after the recent reshuffle of the union council of ministers, will be informal in nature in which there will be no resolutions passed.
Replying to questions Mr Dwivedi clarified that the Surujkund meeting is not a “chintan shivir” and said the party plans to hold such a “shivir” in which the party chief ministers and other leaders and experts of some subjects would be invited.
Inflation and corruption are leading to the Congress’ isolation. Even its allies are not coming forward to explain the compulsions behind the price rise.
The Trinamul Congress quit the UPA on the issue price rise some time back, now the NCP is threatening to launch an agitation if the government failed to take a decision within a week on providing three additional subsidised LPG cylinders.
“We give the Maharashtra government a week’s time, otherwise we will have no option but to launch state-wide protests,” party spokesperson Nawab Malik said in Mumbai during the day. The DMK and supporting parties Samajwadi Party, the BSP are opposing the FDI in retail.
