Fasih Mahmood an accused in the April 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts was brought to the city on Friday by a team of police officials from the Central Crime Branch, who had early this week obtained the body warrant from a local court to bring him from New Delhi. The ground for his transit was cleared on Thursday when a court in Delhi handed over the custody of Fasih to the city police.
Fasih, a mechanical engineer from Anjuman Engineering College, Bhatkal was reportedly associated with the fugitive leader of Indian Mujahideen Mohammed Zarar Sidibapa alias Yasin Bhatkal since his graduation days in Bhatkal in 2000; they were batch mates. Yasin later allegedly got in touch with Fasih while planning the Chinnaswamy Stadium blasts. Fasih, a resident of Barh Samaila village in Darbhanga, left India for Saudi Arabia in 2007.
“We hope that we may get some more details on Yasin and his network from Fasih,“ said a senior police officer. Fasih was deported from Saudi Arabia on October 21 after a Red Corner Notice was issued against him by the Interpol for his involvement in alleged terror activities and was arrested soon after he landed at the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi.

Did the alleged IM terror suspect Fasih Mahmood travel on the same flight as the former external affair minister and senior Congress leader S.M. Krishna from Delhi to Bengaluru? According to some unconfirmed reports, Mr. Krishna, who arrived in the city by the Air India flight AI 502 at 3.45 pm, was received by over 10,000 supporters and party men.
“It is likely that Fasih was also brought in the same flight and whisked away by the police soon after he landed. In the melee, nobody could have spotted Fasih,“ said an official source.
