A section of the Bharatiya Janata Party is insisting on constituting a parliamentary board in Rajasthan and appointing former chief minister Vasundhara Raje as its chairperson.
Sources in the BJP said though there was no such board in states, it could be a formula to pacify both sides.
According to sources, had party president Nitin Gadakri not been embroiled in controversy, the party would have appointed Ms Vasundhara Raje as chief of the state parliamentary board.
The party leadership in Delhi had given its consent to appoint Ms Raje as chairperson of the board, sources said, adding that before the move could be finalised, Mr Gadkari found himself in the midst of a controversy.
“There is no provision in the party constitution to form a parliamentary board in states. It is not possible,” said a senior BJP leader backed by the Sangh Parivar.
The Raje camp loyalists were campaigning to appoint her the state party president in view of the Assembly elections due next year.
The sources said since the state president will be instrumental in selection of candidates for assembly elections, a section close to the RSS was not ready to give up claim over the post.
State BJP president Arun Chaturvedi is considered as close to the RSS but now the party is trying to find out a way to mollify the rival camps.
