Heavy rains due to Cyclone Nilam have forced the YSR Congress to cancel its public meeting that would have formally welcomed Telugu Desam MLA from Gopalapuram T. Vanitha and senior leader Krishna Babu, formerly of the TD, into its fold.
The meeting, if held at Kovvuru in West Godavari district on Sunday, was planned to have been a grand event. However, the two leaders would formally join the party on Sunday evening in the presence of YSRC honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi.
Ms Vanitha has been suspended from the TD recently while Mr Krishna Babu, a former five-time MLA from Kovvuru had tendered his resignation.
Meanwhile, NTR TD chief N. Lakshmi Parv-athi, wife of late N.T Rama Rao, announced that she would join the YSRC soon.
Ms Parvathi had been associating with the activities of the YSRC since a while now, but has not yet formally joined the party.
She told mediapersons in Eluru that she would sho-rtly inform the Election Commission about her decision to join the YSRC.
Ms Parvathi said she found YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy alone could deliver the goods and implement the pro-poor agenda of former chief ministers N.T. Rama Rao and Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy in letter and spirit.
