The state government on Monday announced Rs 1.5 lakh compensation for the next of kin of those who died in the recent floods.
The money will be paid within two days.
The official death toll is 25 and government sources said that about 67,000 people had been evacuated to relief camps. They added that crops had been damaged over an extent of 5.25 lakh hectares and horticulture crops over 24,000 hectares.
New houses will be sanctioned under the Indira Awas Yojana for those whose houses were damaged in the rains. Farmers whose animals perished will also be compensated.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy reviewed the flood situation in the state with ministers and high
level officers. He also requested the Centre to depute a special team to the state to assess the damage caused by floods over the last few days and provide financial assistance at the earliest.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, he requested that the Centre relax the norms for purchasing cotton affected by rains. The CM will undertake an aerial survey on Tuesday in Krishna, Kham-mam, Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari districts.
“The CM has directed the officials to conduct enumeration on the extent of damage caused by the floods.
Based on this, a detailed report will be submitted to the Centre seeking financial assistance. We expect to get clarity on the extent of damage within two days,” said revenue minister N.Raghuveera Reddy.
Minister for civil supplies D. Sridhar Babu said that as per preliminary reports 12,076 houses were damaged besides 3,100 km of roads under the Roads and Buildings department and 3,700 km under the Panchayat Raj department had washed away.
Also 1,286 minor irrigation tanks, 18 medium irrigation tanks and 44 lift irrigation facilities, 427 rural water supply resources and 47 water supply facilities in urban areas were damaged due to the floods.
