The examination reform committee (ERC) set up by the University of Mumbai acted upon its own suggestion of “making optimum use of technology” in the examination process, as it used feedback from Facebook in preparing its report.
Dr Subhash Deo, secretary of the ERC said that garnering feedback from from students, parents, teachers and stakeholders through Facebook had been a fruitful exercise.
“We had to use a medium that was popular among all stakeholders. Committee members during their visits to different universities in the state asked the concerned authorities to popularise the exam reform committee page on Facebook and encourage stakeholders to write their views, opinions and suggestions on the same,” said Dr Deo.
The ERC that submitted its report on Tuesday to the governor, led by example and made good use of technology to garner feedback while preparing the report on ways and means to be adopted to improve the examination system across all universities in the state. According to committee members the feedback they received through the social networking site Facebook had been very useful and was included in the report that they prepared after visiting and studying the existing system at the 17 universities in the state.
Dr Deo also said that governor K. Sankaran-arayanan was very appreciative of the initiative taken by the committee as it was done keeping in mind the final goal of finding end-to-end solutions for various examination related problems. The committee was set up following numerous reports on malpractices and goofups in the examination process.
