‘Like to invite Federer for dinner’

Tennis flows in their blood. After Ankita, Sanaa and Yuki Bhambri, Prerna has begun to create ripples in the tennis circuit. Before clinching the national crown, the Delhi lass won the second ITF Futures title of her career in Gulbarga, Karnataka.

“It was a very special win for me, as it was my first senior national title though I had won the Under-18 nationals previously in Chennai,” Prerna said.
It’s not just tennis that occupies her time. The 20-year-old Jesus & Mary College student also loves to shop and dreams of inviting Roger Federer’s family home for dinner.
In a chat with this newspaper, the recently-crowned national champion shared her some of her secrets and desire. Excerpts:

Earliest sporting memory: I played my first tournament at the Laxman Public School when I was 8 years old and won the Under-10 and Under-12 events.

Sports played: Swimming.

Most memorable sporting moment: When I represented India at the Head Elite tournament in Barcelona, Spain, and finished runner-up.

Questions most asked by public/press: How I started tennis.

Sporting hero: Roger Federer.

Favourite venue: Venue of the Australian Open — Melbourne.

What do you never leave home without? My Blackberry.

Who would you most like to invite to dinner? Roger Federer and his family.

Other interests in your life: Watching movies, reading novels and lots of shopping.

A habit you wish to get rid of: Being an introvert.

Favourite actor: Shah Rukh Khan.

One thing that frightens you most: Cockroaches

Any superstition? I am not superstitious.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Winning WTA tour tournaments.
