The Kerala Water Authority’s special drive launched to enhance revenue collection and streamline water supply in the city has turned out to be a huge success.
The Pallimukku sub-division alone could garner more than Rs1 crore during the 12 working days this month and the total collection from the three sub-divisions in the city will be not less than `3 crore. The collection from Kaloor sub- division has been nearly Rs70,000.
“The special drive has been a big success and there is considerable increase in revenue collection. We are continuing to disconnect water supply to payment defaulters in the three sub-divisions of Kaloor, Pallimukku and Karuvelipadi in the city”, said Govinda Kumar, assistant executive engineer, KWA.
Water supply to hostels, hotels, big residential apartments and commercial establishments within the corporation area, which were yet to pay their bills, would be disconnected on Tuesday, said the executive engineer in a release. Meanwhile, more than 5,000 consumers have cleared their dues during the drive.
At the same time, the preparatory work for introducing spot billing is in progress. As part of this, all connections, including domestic ones, with bill dues would be disconnected without prior notice by this month end.
Consumers would also be served revenue recovery notices while disconnecting the supply, said the KWA executive engineer. Revenue recovery proceedings would be initiated against those who fail to remit the dues within seven days of disconnection.
For non-domestic consumers, it would take seven days to reinstate the disconnected water supply as KWA officials would be engaged in field work.
