The Anti-Corruption Bureau has found no evidence indicating the involvement of former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana and PCC chief and transport minister Botsa Satyanarayana in the liquor scam.
Sources said the ACB report on the scam states that though the leader of the liquor syndicate, Nunna Venkatramana, revealed in his confession that he had paid bribes to the former excise minister, there was no proof against him. Also, allegations that Satyanarayana’s relatives were involved did not hold water.
The ACB also said that there was no direct loss to the government in the scam though crores had been paid as mamools.
Nunna Venkataramana had named the former excise minister in his second confession, not his first. Also, as the accused in the NDPS Act was upset with the local DSP for booking cases against him, he named him in the confession. However, probes revealed that the DSP was not in Khammam when the alleged incident of the police locking the shop for not paying bribes took place. “So the confession is baseless,” said an investigator.
