The new solar energy policy 2012 for Tamil Nadu unveiled by the chief minister Jayalalithaa has evoked spontaneous response from industrialists and big time investors who are keen on taking up the projects.
The state government, which is set to announce subsidies to encourage the promoters, has already evolved a roadmap to generate solar energy from various districts in the state.
According to sources, it has been planned to harness 100 MW each from Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts, 50 MW each from Salem, Villupuram and Thanjavur, besides 25 MW power from the other districts.
Totally, about 3,000 MW power would be generated in the next three years, of which 1,000 MW would be produced in the first year itself - 2013.
Each investor/promoter would generate at least 1 MW so as to assist the state government produce 1,000 MW during the first year.
“About one to two crore rupees are required to establish infrastructure on five-acre land to produce one MW solar power. The project should be 200 m away from the sub-station,” a senior official said.
